Share setbacks without losing the story.

A clear account of what happened, what it means, and what you plan to do next.

All guides

Say what happened plainly

Start with the fact rather than an optimistic headline that obscures it. Describe the affected milestone, customer, metric, or assumption. Distinguish what you know from what you are still investigating.

Explain the consequences

Connect the event to the company plan. Does it affect revenue, cash, the hiring schedule, or timing for the next round? Include the range of possible outcomes if the answer is uncertain.

Show the next decision

Tell readers what you have changed and what you have not yet decided. Identify the owner and next checkpoint for the work. A concrete decision process is more useful than a promise that everything is under control.

Ask for targeted help

Make one or two specific requests that match the problem. Share sensitive details only with the appropriate people. TenX's information rights and delivery settings support that choice, but the judgment about what to disclose stays with you.

General information, not legal, financial, or tax advice. Review decisions with qualified advisers.
